Programs with German Language of Instruction

Programs listed below are offered with German as the primary language of instruction, and are designed for students who wish to explore various aspects of German language, culture, and society. However, some emphasize language acquisition with other focuses (e.g. psychology, music).

The IUI Program in German sponsors a 3-week  program in Heilbronn for students who have successfully completed the minimum requirement of German-G 132. This program welcomes students majoring in all academic disciplines and is not restricted to language majors. See also programs in French and Spanish.

As an IUI student, you are eligible to participate in IU programs on all campuses. Below are offerings that may suit your study abroad interests.

• All IU Summer Programs

  For German language credit

  If you have not completed any German language:
  • Austria: Vienna- IES Music Program (IUB)
  • Austria: Vienna- IES Psychology (IUB)
  If you have completed at least first year German:
  • Germany: University of Heilbronn Summer Program (IUI)

• All IU Semester and Academic Year Programs

  For German language credit

  If you have not completed any German language courses:
  • Austria: Vienna-IES Semester Program (IUB) *Europe Society & Culture and Music Programs available
  • Germany: Freiburg-IES European Union (IUB)

• IUI General Education Core

  Please see the study abroad and your degree page for a list of programs that fulfill one of IUI's General Education Core.

Looking for something different?

This list above is not exhaustive for programs that could fulfill major credits for your degree. You can consider programs outside your major area of study to fulfill general education and/or elective credits or a semester program with English as the primary language of instruction.

You can also consider a non-IU program through various study abroad program providers or other universities. Read about Non-IU Programs for more information on how to start the application process. If you find a non-IU program that fits your interests, contact our office at least 6 weeks before your departure to ensure credit transfer and to learn more about applying financial aid or scholarships.
